Katy Lena Ndiaye: Documentary Masterclass

Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) and Africa in Motion present a documentary filmmaking masterclass with Senegalese-French director Katy Léna Ndiaye.

Katy graduated from the Superior Institute for Social and Communication Studies (IHECS) in Brussels, obtaining a Master in Press and Information. She began as a journalist for press organisations in Belgium, before gradually entering the African audio-visual field, leading both a career as an independent filmmaker, and working for television. Her films, Traces, empreintes de femmes (2003), En attendant les hommes (2007) and On a le temps pour nous (2019) have won prizes in numerous festivals and have been distributed on all five continents. Her works have also been shown in cultural hotspots such as MoMa in New York, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, European Museum of Photography in Paris and the "Haus der kulturen der Welt" in Berlin. Katy Lena Ndiaye is now running IndigoMood films, a production company set up in Dakar in 2013, promoting documentary and feature film projects from Senegal and the rest of the continent.

Both En attendant les hommes (25-27 November) and Katy’s latest film On a le temps pour nous (27-29 November) will screen as part of this year’s festival.

This event is held in partnership with the Scottish Documentary Institute. To join in the conversation on Zoom, please register here. The masterclass will also be streamed live to our Facebook page.
