Included Films

Winner of the best debut feature at Venice, Amjad Abu Alala’s moving, beautiful and deeply personal drama finds a metaphor for Sudan’s fight for democracy in the struggles of one individual. When Muzamil was born, a prophecy by the holy man of the village predicted that he will die when he turns 20. How can he live and love under a death sentence? His father leaves, his mother, Sakina, raises him as a single mother. Muzamil is in a limbo, defined by compliance with his destiny until he finds a father figure with a broader view of the world in cinephile Sulaiman.

This feature will be accompanied by short film Serotonin

This screening is presented in partnership with The Sudanese Community in Edinburgh, who will host a Q&A with director Amjad Abu Alala live on our Facebook page* on Friday 6 November at 9pm.
