Opening Night: Dhalinyaro + Q&A

Capturing the spirit of youth in this small East African country, Dhalinyaro (which translates as 'youth') follows a trio of friends, Asma, Hibo and Deko; teenagers growing up in Djibouti city. Coming from different socio-economic backgrounds, the film shows the different concerns of these three girls.

Lula Ali Ismail paints a portrait of contemporary Djibouti as a vibrant port city through this heartfelt and sensitive coming of age story, revealing the pressures that young women face and the choices they have to make. Ismail's gentle film is the first feature to be directed by a female filmmaker from Djibouti.

Join us on our opening night (Friday 30 October) at 8:30pm for a live Q&A on our Facebook page* with director Lula Ali Ismail. The discussion will be followed by our Ultimate House Party from 9pm to celebrate the start of this year’s festival!

*It will also be recorded and uploaded to our Vimeo page within 24 hours of the event.
