Sun and Moon 2020

Amira El Badry | Egypt 2020 | 4m | Arabic with English subtitles

Sun and Moon

Synopsis

A man sits alone in an “ahwa” — a traditional Egyptian coffee shop, playing chess by himself.

As he stares at the board, the pieces below come to life and battle it out in uniquely artistic collisions. Although less than five minutes long, Sun and Moon tells of inner conflict and the duality of good and evil in one man, and one chess board. Born in Cairo, Amira El Badry is a stop motion artist and puppeteer with a vision to enchant the most inanimate of objects.

Sun and Moon will be free to watch online for the duration of the festival.

Director Amira El Badry will take part in a live online panel discussion on Monday 9 November. Read a blog about Sun and Moon here
