Our annual Short Film Competition returns for the thirteenth year, showcasing the work of emerging filmmakers from across the continent and the diaspora. This year's shortlist was selected from over 450 entries, and the finalists comprise a broad range of films, each with a unique style, narrative and voice.
We will host three online panel discussions with the short film directors throughout the festival, for more details see here.

Audience Award
You - the audience - also have the opportunity to rate the films using the star-rating system (5 being the highest and 1 the lowest) displayed below each film. These will be collated during the festival and the Audience Award winner will be announced on our website at the end of the festival.
Viewing the films
All the short films are available to watch for free on the Africa in Motion website. Most of them will be available for the duration of the festival (Sat 31 Oct to Sun 29 Nov), except the following films:
Habib will only be available for 48 hours from 11am on Sat 31 Oct.
Da Yie and Henet Ward will be available for 10 days from 11am on Sat 31 Oct.

2020 Jury
The shortlist was compiled by students in Film and Television Studies at the University of Glasgow. The jury winner, who will receive £500, is selected by our jury of acclaimed African creatives and will be announced on our website at the end of the festival. The 2020 jury consists of:
Cecile Emeke: Cecile is a director, writer and artist and her credits include directing the TATE Modern commissioned art film, ‘The Ancestors’, as well as working with Sky and HBO. She is currently working on her debut feature film backed by the BBC.
Ana Camila Esteves: Ana is a journalist, cultural producer, and co-founder and curator of Mostra de Cinema Africanos (Brazil African Film Festival). Ana holds a master’s degree in Film Studies and is pursuing a PHD on everyday life narratives in African cinema.
Edima Otuokon: Edima is a co-founder of the Ladima Foundation, a non-profit organisation with the aim of correcting the gender imbalance across film, television and content in Africa. She is also an expert in creative sector reform and involved with several film festivals such as Zanzibar International Film Festival and Cape Town International Film Festival.
Lara Utian-Preston Lara is the CEO and co-founder of Ladima Foundation, and is an expert on development of the creative sector in Africa. She is a regular contributor to Screen Africa magazine.
