On a le temps pour nous (Time is on Our Side)

In October 2014 in Burkina Faso, what many could not dare to imagine occurred. The Burkinabè ended the reign of Blaise Compaore. Rapper Serge Bambara (aka Smockey), member of the Balai Citoyen, is among the artisans of change in the victory. Today, this uprising, the failed military coup and the organisation of free elections, are all in the past. Has the price of the fallen regime paid off? This intimate documentary brings us into the daily life and world of Smockey, a rebel character who traces a path between activism and artistic work, inspired by Burkinabè socialist revolutionary Thomas Sankara.

Join director Katy Lena Ndiaye for a live Filmmaking Masterclass on Friday 27 November at 2pm. Katy will talk about this documentary, and her previous film En attendant les hommes, which is also screening in this year’s festival from 7:30pm on Wednesday 25 November.
