The Letter + Q&A Event

This understated documentary is an intimate family portrait with female strength and resilience at its core. A 94-year-old Grandmother - Margaret Kamango - with a fearless spirit must overcome dangerous accusations of witchcraft coming from within her own family. Her grandson Karisa, travels home from the city to investigate, and it gradually emerges who sent the threatening letter. He finds a frenzied mixture of consumerism and Christianity is turning hundreds of families against their elders, branding them as witches as a means to take ownership of their ancestral land. The film features an original score by director Maia Lekow, also a prominent Kenyan musician, with her band Maia & the Big Sky.
