Discover the diverse tastes of Africa this autumn at Africa in Motion! 

This year the festival has a range of exciting food events to enable the people of Scotland to sample unique and exciting flavours from across Africa. Immerse yourself at a dine-and-view and be transported to a land far away. With four dine-and-views across Edinburgh and Glasgow, spanning a variety of cuisines, there is bound to be something to excite everyone’s taste buds.

AiM event 2 KINNING PARK CABARET

Saturday 28 Oct at 7pm | Kinning Park Complex

The first event of the festival in Glasgow, Kinning Park Cabaret is an evening of performance emanating from the Scottish African diaspora. Poetry performances from Zimbabwean poet Tiwana Sithole and with music from Heir of the Cursed combine with a delicious feast from Eritrea. This is one of two events presented in collaboration with social enterprise Kuche.

TASTING PLACE

Saturday 4 Nov at 7pm | Project Cafe

Tasting Place, a night of experimental films from Africa accompanied by samples of food and drink to compliment the films being shown. A unique insight into how African artist’s engage with landscape and space in their work. Served with each film will be a taste of ethically sourced produce from each country represented in the films.

AN ARABIAN NIGHT

Thursday 2 Nov at 7pm | Nur Restaurant

A pop-up event at Egyptian restaurant Nur will see the UK Premiere of Egyptian film Ali, The Goat and Ibrahim, a touching film about friendship and a man who is in love with a goat. Accompanied by an Egyptian feast, comprising of a variety of tagines will be served with flatbread and a choice of tea will transport viewers to the bustling streets of Cairo and to the River Nile.

TULE CHAKULA

Sunday 29 Oct at 7pm | Serenity Cafe

Explore the tastes of East Africa at Tule Chakula (Swahili for “Let’s eat food!”) where a three-course Kenyan meal prepared by Christine Longstaff of Knight’s Kitchen will be served as a selection of short films from Tanzania, Kenya and Ethiopia provide different snapshots of life in these countries. A seasonal pumpkin soup will be followed by a choice of vegetarian curry or Swahili prawns and followed by mandazi, East African inspired doughnuts flavoured with cinnamon and cardamom.

AiM TV LOUNGE AT CALABASH

Monday 30 Oct - Thursday 2 Nov from 4pm to 8pm | The Calabash, African Bar and Restaurant

Other highlights include the AiM TV Lounge, running for the third year, presenting a daily selection of popular African television shows including soaps, sports shows, mockumentaries, and cooking programmes. Situated in Calabash: The African Restaurant, the TV lounge is a drop-in where authentic East African cuisine can be enjoyed whilst. The perfect place to enjoy a selection of African television whilst eating delicious food.
